I hope those of you who live in the Northern states have been keeping warm this winter--the cold weather definitely puts a cramp in practicing and rehearsing. With Spring hopefully around the corner, thoughts will be turning toward fire festivals and good times with friends. Here are some highlights of this month as we look to the next!
Poi Spinning Basics on Curious.com
Last year the folks at Curious.com contacted me to put together a series of poi tutorials for their website. This gave me an opportunity to update a lot of my beginner content with new tips and tricks as well as video aides such as slow-motion, computer overlays, and POV shots of tricky moves. The result is a 13-video series that’s now available at http://www.curious.com/drexfactorpoi that covers everything from the basics of plane control to weaves and flowers. If you or anyone else you know is interested in mastering the basics of poi, please check out this series! Each lesson is available for between $.99 and $1.99 or you can get the entire course for $9.99.
400 Tech Blogs!
Two weeks ago I shot and uploaded my 400th tech blog! A lot has changed since I uploaded my first one in September of 2008, but my love of the art and desire to share it with others has remained much the same. In honor of the occasion, I've looked back through my last 50 videos to pick out 5 of my favorites to share with you and the readers of my blog. These videos run the gamut of popular reviews and tricks that got thousands of views all the way to personal favorites that, regardless of their reception, hold a special place in my heart. Be sure to check out these picks and please tell me what some of your favorites have been!
Where to Find Me
This weekend I’ll be teaching and performing at MinneFLOWta, a very special retreat in Minneapolis, MN. The event is a one-day, specially curated event featuring some of the top flow artists in the country there to teach everything from the latest tricks and techniques to the ins and outs of the flow arts as a business. At night, there will be a special performance gala where I’ll be performing a poi duet with Noel Yee that we wrote as part of the Foreways Project. If you live in the area and would like to come, please use the promo code “drexler” to get 10% off the price of your ticket. Hope to see you there!
