Six months ago I started up a little experiment, trying to crowdfund resources from the community to assist me in making my many video projects. Between tech blogs, tutorials, double staff tech blogs and tutorials, Profiles in Poi, The Month in Flow, Slow Mo Monday, and Stop Drop and Spins, I spend a whole lot of my time creating these video projects for the wider world.
It's awesome in that from what I can tell, it's become a resource that has become hugely useful across the world. I'm one of the most viewed poi channels on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. I've tried augmenting my income with prop sales, but there's only so much that selling poi can accomplish. Plus which: this is my passion and these resources will live on indefinitely on YouTube for many future generations to find and learn from.
Thus, I asked for and continue to ask for help from the community in putting them together. This is a full time job between the practice and rehearsal necessary to have content to present as well as the shooting, editing, and promoting of the videos once they're done. In the past few months, the crowdfunding platform I built into my site has helped cushion me with hundreds of dollars worth of donations from wonderful fellow artists out there in the community. But let's face it, the interface is ugly and confusing and I didn't have a good way to show goals on it.
Today I'm pleased to announce that I'm starting up a crowdfunding page on Patreon.com. This is a crowdfunding platform for regular content producers such as myself that does everything that the support section of my website does but better and with a prettier interface. It allows for a much more intuitive rewards page, better goal setting, and most intriguing to me a feed for supporters. That feed will be a place where I'll be able to put longer versions of my slow mo monday and stop drop and spin videos, one-off takes of incomplete work, and share notes on ideas and videos I happen to be working on. I'm intrigued by what the feed can do for my relationship between me and my donors, so go check it out at http://www.patreon.com/drexfactorpoi
For those of you who prefer to keep your data to yourself or only do one-off donations, you can still do so at http://www.drexfactor.com/support
Thanks one and all! Please help me make this passion a career as much as a gift :)
