Flow practice: MLK Day 2010

DC finally came out of its deep freeze just in time for a warm MLK Day. I headed down to Dupont Circle for the day to enjoy the sun and do a little free spinning. Enjoy!

Drex spins fire poi on Thanksgiving 2009

Lots of requests lately for a fire vid, so here's one of me performing at an informal spin jam on Thanksgiving night. Note when I whiff a BTB 5-beat waistwrap and My ubersloppy diagonal plane attempts ;)

Music to spin to

While the vast majority of the time I'm spinning, I'm either doing so to improvised sessions by drummers or canned music that's been selected by my fire performance troupe, I frequently find that those rare opportunities when I get to put on my own music for a solo performance are some of my best.

Chris Rovo spins double-meteor Saturday night at Firedrums 2009

Wish I'd caught him when his wicks were fresh, but even the stuff we was doing with them burnt down a little bit was amazing. This is Chris "Rovo" Bailey spinning a tool that as far as I know he has invented and explored: the double meteor. Crazy cool stuff but wicked difficult from what I can tell.

Yuta and Cyrille spin Saturday night at Firedrums 2009

Gah! Attack of the blurry! You can still make out some of the details of what Cyrille and Yuta were doing together. Incidentally if any of you out there have this problem with your camera, it turns out it can be fixed by swiping your hand real quickly in front of the lense, causing the camera to refocus.

Nicole McLaughlin spins poi Saturday night at Firedrums 2009

My friend Nicole had an acupuncture conference the week before Firedrums in the Bay Area, so she was able to join us for the fun. This is her second burn! She's been working hella hard the last few months and it was a huge treat to get to watch her light up for the first time. In the background you can see a cluster of firebreathers attempting to do seven in a row.
