Video Tech Blog #64: hoop tech, hybrid plane shifts

Could not display the flash because does not appear to exist.

First up, the first hoop trick to make it into my tech blog! My friend Katie/Surprise showed my a funky isolation trick that I dug that seemed to have this odd stopping point. Remembering some bits learned from a recent Hoop Path workshop, I realized a body can keep the hoop constantly in motion by jumping one's grip. The demo here is terrible--it's with my old hoop, which weighs a ton. Nonetheless, I swear this one is doable (incidentally, if any hoopers out there know what it's called, please drop a line in my comment box). Next is a plane shifted variant that's done by stalling from split-time opposites above each shoulder. I believe G actually does this in one of his vids, but I dig the effect. Finally, one of my students showed me a variant of the plane-shifting CAP vs pendulum trick I showed off last week wherein one stalls down and uses it as a zero point to switch into the same trick 90 degrees off from the original, which I think looks a lot cooler than what I came up with.

It's been a fun year and I've really appreciated all the support both of these videos and for the ideas contained in them from the poi community. You guys rock and I can't wait both to see what new ideas are out there in the plethora of videos that have sprung up in the past few months and where they take all of us in the coming year. Have a happy new year, all :)
